New interface walkthrough available

Apple has posted a video of the new interface walkthrough on the web site. From the video, you can see the brand new translucent pop up menu instead of the old one. The menu floats on top of the content allow using the user the select the desired function.

The walkthrough showcases how a user can browse through the movie rental catalog, rent them (even with HD), how to access photos from Flickr and .Mac accounts, and more.

I actually don't like the new movie grid format (where you have to move right/left and up/down). It pretty much looks like the MyMovies UI for Vista Media Center. I prefer the older method (scroll up/down a text list of movies with one really big picture of the currently selected movie). The old interface was definitely flawed in that it wouldn't let you categorize the movies (if you've ripped a couple hundred movies, you need some sort of categorization/searching), but they could have given you categorization/searching while keeping the other list view.

The big question for me is whether it supports any new codecs and what codec they're using to offer 5.1 support. Will you be able to rip your own DVDs w/5.1 audio? If so, I may get a couple of these. If not, I'll probably go with Vista Media Center which allows me to rip straight VOB files, maintaining perfect PQ and 5.1 audio.

Has anyone heard anything about the USB port? I watched the walkthrough and checked Apple's ATV pages but I don't see any mention other than it exists.

@Sammyfan - The USB port is still officially not used for anything
@Scott R - The new AppleTV will not support any new video formats. Interesting feedback re, the interface. Look forward to seeing it in a couple of weeks. Overall it looks slicker, but I hope they haven't removed any of the usability of the original...

The chick in the video is pretty hot.

Yeah, it's a little hard to believe she's just some random employee they plucked from the sales floor at Topanga Plaza or wherever.
