Jaman

Jaman
Jaman is a movie download service featuring independent movies from some of the top filmmakers from all over the globe. The service boasts more titles than the iTunes Store, with over 1000 movies available for download and rent.

But movie download is just one of the aspects of the service. Another main attraction is its social networking feature. Jaman's community of avid movie watchers actively recommend and criticize movies, rate them and exchange thoughts with each other.
Jaman Community
Unlike other services reviewed in this article, Jaman requires that its movies be viewed using its dedicated player. The player is available for Mac and PC. And just last week, Jaman has released its JamanTV plugin for the Apple TV. So whereas movies from other services can be add to iTunes to be synced to the Apple TV, the movies from Jaman have to be synced via Jaman Player. For more information on the JamanTV plugin, visit this link .

Jaman Movie Player
The movies on Jaman are formatted specifically to be viewed on a higher resolution screen. Whether viewing on a computer monitor or on a large LCD TV via the Apple TV, the encoding quality of these movies is top-notch. It is almost impossible to differentiate the viewing experience from watching DVDs. Each movie is available for $1.99 for rent and $4.99 for purchase.

If you've been longing to rent movies from the iTunes Store, forget about it and give Jaman a try. Though you will not find any blockbuster Hollywood movies here, you will be surprise at what independent movies have to offer. With a well-polished site layout and a very active community of members, you will find it hard not to like Jaman.

Conclusion

When doing the research for this article, I found many movie download services out there that have movies compatible with the Apple TV. However, most of them are just filled with pirated movies uploaded by members. Those sites might have more recent blockbuster movies but it sure is not worth the risk of getting caught downloading them.

The 4 services I covered in this article offer consumers a wide variety of content not normally found on iTunes. If you are looking to break away from watching the same offerings from iTunes, give these services a try and you will find that there is so much more outside the iTunes Universe.
