Help with NFS vs. AFP gigabit transfer rates to NA 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 2
Hey,

I have a new gigabit router. hoped that speeds to copy files TO my gigabit ReadyNASNV+ would drastically improve.

Have been testing

Peak transfer rate using AFP = 25 MB/s
Peak transfer rate using NFS = 10 MB/s
FTP peak rate was 15 MB/s

and

Moving files from my iMac to my NAS using FW external drive Rate = 28 MB/s about the same as AFP over gigabit using cat5

I was curious as to why NFS is slower than AFP ? Seemingly not taking advantage of the gigabit line.
I use NFS to auto-mount my NAS on my AppleTV with the help of ATVFiles

so

anyone comment on NFS speeds over ethernet AND whether I should be using a cat6 cable.
the AFP speeds doubled using the gigabit line - even using a cat5 cable ?

People in the know have told me that cat5 should be fine for gigabit line. So my question is :

Why doesn't NFS take advantage of the gigabit line ? It stays at the same transfer rate as with 10/100.

Thanks alot.
