Nice. refurbs from Apple are a treat.

I could not agree more on 1.1. Interesting comment on the Dolby though : ) I think you'll find that the A52 codec does not make the DD5.1 work though. Sorry to say. My image you are receiving has the Perian 1.1 codec set and if it works right (I repaired the hell out of that code too) then you'll notice what I mean about DD. For me DD5.1 was a deal-breaker. All my concerts and good flicks are ripped through Handbrake 0.92 (what an amazing app!) and they utilize AC3 passthrough wherever possible. Now in v 0.92 you don't have to use the AVI container either. They have it now so the MP4 container handles DDAC3 Pasthrough. too cool for Eskimos even ( oops not supposed to use that term no more).

So .. bl a bla .. I had to be careful with my Surround receiver to get the right setting (Auto-cinema mode on my Denon) that was the start .

then I found the fix. Man was I happy. I didi some serious digging to find it and was amazed when it worked. I jumped out of my seat truly.

So - give it a shot - I think without a a few lines of code it shall not work. But I have the fix and will post it here IF you need it. Who know - maybe it will work for you without them.

Andrew

Hey Andrew,

I tried to get the file working from the USB key, no dice. Can you run me through what I need to do to format the USB key, and if I need to do anything other than drag-and-drop to the USB key? I'm formatting GUID on the USB key, and have no idea if the drive needs partitioning or something?

Total noob to the terminal here as well.

Thanks Andrew!

btw - DD 5.1 is a dealbreaker for me too which is why I want to hack the thing so I can play 5.1 DD files. I'm still on Tiger but am gonna buy Leopard as soon as I get this thing hacked and start handbraking my keeper movies.

Exactly.

So. I just dropped you an email that should prove helpful. sorry bout that. It's sometimes helps to have the instructions. I forgo to that they were not on the new image. If you are new at the terminal then you love this small set of essential commands for having good control over your atv.

A.

Hi Andrew, not working here. I've tried on 3 different patchsticks, upon reboot I get the same thing I get with the other patchsticks I've tried (Awkward TV, manually making the patchstick by instructions on the wiki).

I get an apple logo, black, apple logo...then it reboots, repeats the apple logo a couple times, then the language menu. No scrolling text, nothing.

I'm on a totally vanilla 1.1 refurb, I've done nothing more than open it, haven't even messed around with it much.

Not sure what's going on...any ideas?

Harmonica , I mean Harpoon,

Sorry for that but I did mention that I had never tried the take_2 stick on a vanilla 1.1 box as you are. In any case there are some binaries and boot files that you may need from the v1 pqtchstick , since it uses the older OS_Boot image.

So, I have just sent you new instructions and a new image of my v1 stick.
Minus the actual sshd binary - that you should replace with a copy from your Tiger OS.

This should do it.

I left pretty explicit instructions as to how to navigate using the terminal in order to make sure the sshd file is executable.

Andrew.

hey Andrew, still no dice. Same result with that patchstick too.

I've tried on 2 patchsticks, a 512MB Kingston Data Traveller and a 1GB no-name brand. My third one is read-only after I made one from Awkward TV and I can't erase the thing!

...I might try to find a 256MB patchstick to try again on, maybe that's the problem?!? I'm doing everything right, I've quintuple-checked.

I might upgrade my box to Take 2 and try the first patch, just to see if it'll work with Take 2. I want the USB drive in there though but at least having Perian in there would be a start, and it'd be nice to see SOMETHING happen on the TV on my end.

Does the drive have to be partitioned at all or something? I'm not sure what it could be.

Andrew, thanks again for taking the time, I really appreciate your assistance, man.
