OK.

I have sent 'photos' to each of you.

I decide to try it 1st using a compressed ZIP file because the actual .dmg is 22Mb.

So, if the patchstick does not work then it is simple the fact that I compressed the dmg.
So, if this is the case then I can get the full un-compressed ZIP file to you some other way.

Maybe one of you will be able to test it more quickly than the other and let us know.
I imagine it should be ok but there is a possibility that it won't as it is a cloned image we want - exact replica no less.

sorry for the dribble.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I am a complete noob when it comes to this.

Do I just load the DMG onto a USB drive, and then insert it to the AppleTV, and access it from AppleTV correct?

Inside the disk image ( did you get it and unzip it ?) you wil find FULL instruc inside the ssh folder on the image ( assuming you have mounted the dmg first )

First you must unzip/clone to usb stick ( I use a plain-jane 512Mb Kennsington USB thumb drive or stick) and then insert the right files into the ssh folder and you should be gold. As I said there are full instrucs.

I tried to make this as painless as possible.

I'm sure you can find someone nearby with a an Intel mac running Tiger that can help you.

Hi again.

Right so because I'm using Windows and I don't have a Mac I'm having to convert the DMG to an iso(or image file) using this tool: http://www.vu1tur.eu.org/tools/

However several times I get the error saying it is currupt (the DMG)

So maybe like you said it's because you zipped it.

Now you can upload it to www.rapidshare.com for free and we can download for free as they have a 100mb storage limit.

Apart from that I can't think of another option.

Regards

Well. This is another issue.

The 'file structure' on the DMG is MAC. ANd has to stay that way. Regardless of whether or not the image was compressed or not when zipped makes no difference in this case.

So, You will have to use a mac in order to 'clone' the DMG to a USB stick./ period.

There may be ways to do this on a PC but I know nothing about that and 1 thing is for sure...

you cannot convert this disk image and have it work. why ? because the image is exactly the way it needs to be in order to boot the ATV.

You should be able to - on a windows box - unzip the file successfully.

Cloning it to the USB stick most likely has to be done on a mac. sorry.

Interfacing with the ATV can be done through a windows machine but the actual creation of the stick should be done on a mac.

Can you unzip the image and see it ok ? and if so it should be 22 MB in size.
